CU Grow Celebrates the Graduation of Cohort Nine and Its Tradition of Partnerships with Local and Small Businesses

March 09, 2026

The Columbia Facilities and Operations-led CU Grow Vendor Development Program graduated its ninth cohort in a ceremony at Faculty House on Wednesday, January 28. The program is designed to help small and local vendors, as well as socially and economically disadvantaged individuals (SEDI), grow their businesses. This year’s cohort graduated firms with specialties including security, architectural design, electrical work, safe disposal, construction, and cleaning and maintenance.

The CU Grow program supports business owners in building their management, financial, marketing, and back-office skills. Over the course of the 11-month program, business owners are matched with a mentor who supports them through a curriculum developed by the Columbia University School of Professional Studies (SPS). The curriculum centers on helping vendors create a three-year growth plan, connecting them with resources to gain specific knowledge, and reviewing their overall business plan.

The achievements of past program alumni demonstrate the tangible benefits gained through the collaboration between Columbia and CU Grow firms. Past graduates have collectively earned over $212 million with Columbia – making long-lasting improvements at Columbia. The 176 CU Grow firms who’ve graduated from the program also work with clients well beyond Columbia, contributing to the wider economic vitality of our region.
